School Context

Birkbeck Primary School

Birkbeck Primary School is a large, three-form entry family-friendly school and nursery that is located in the heart of Sidcup in Kent.  The school was previously housed in the building now used by Doreen Bird College on Birkbeck Road, it has been in its present site in Alma Road since the 1960’s.

At present there are 625 pupils on roll.

The recently completed extensive expansion works have provided us with a beautiful building, enhanced landscaped areas and a brand-new outdoor learning environment for Reception pupils.  The grounds are well-tended and the school has its own playing field which is used by We have our own Forest School which gives our pupils the opportunity for positive outdoor experiences and appreciation of the wider natural world.pupils during the summer.  Altogether there are 21 classrooms and a nursery class. In addition, we have our own Forest School which gives our pupils the opportunity for positive outdoor experiences and appreciation of the wider natural world.

The general environment, close to Sidcup Station, main shopping centres and very near to Waring Park is an excellent resource for practical fieldwork and local studies to support the pupils’ learning via first-hand experience and observation. There are two entrances to the school. The Alma Road entrance is open at all times whereas the Faraday Avenue entrance is only opened at the beginning and the end of the day.

We have a very good mix of experienced, accomplished teachers on staff. A specialist teacher and sports coach teach science and physical education. The school has a full-time business manager and supportive office and premises team.

Children are highly motivated to achieve well and this is reflected in our school motto "Dream... Believe...  Achieve". Our school culture is strongly supported by our three values resilience, responsibility and equality which encourages children to be respectful of all people.  Children are highly motivated to achieve well and this is reflected in our school motto "Dream... The parent community is highly supportive of the school. Our school council ambassadors and PTA are amazingly dedicated groups with boundless energy and enthusiasm.
