Alder Class
The children in Alder Class have been working hard with their learning and again their effort and motivation for learning is commendable.
In maths, the children have been working on securing their understanding of multiplication and their mental recall of key multiplication facts. They have been working on using multiplication to work out related division across the times tables and solving one and two step problems using these operations.
In English, the children have been learning about and researching Tutankhamun and the discovery of his famous tomb in the Valley of the Kings in 1922. They have been planning their own reports about Tutankhamun and the treasures and artefacts discovered in his tomb.
In science, the children have continued learning about electricity making and investigating different electrical circuits. This week, they have been learning about positive and negative electrical charges. They had great fun investigating how to create static electricity using balloons and finding out how negatively charged objects attract positively charge objects.
In Design Technology, the class investigated what shapes provided the most secure and stable structures in preparation for designing and making their own structures in the next few week.
In history ,the children have continued learning about the ancient Egyptian civilisation and the sources of evidence which provide information about the ancient Egyptian way of life, culture and religious beliefs. This week, the children were finding out about the artefacts found in Tutankhamun's tomb and explaining what this evidence told us about the life of Tutankhamun.

I would to say well done to all the children in Alder Class for a great half term. The children have all made a super effort with their learning and and it has been lovely to share in their enthusiasm for learning new skills and knowledge.
In reading lessons, we have continued to read a range of text types including narrative stories, poems and information texts and have been focusing on reading with fluency and proficiency.
In writing, the children have very much enjoyed writing their own Cinderella stories. The children have worked on their proof reading and editing skills and have all published a great final draft.
In maths, the children have been working on addition and subtraction of three and four digit numbers using written methods and applying these skills in problem solving.
In science, the children have enjoyed investigating which materials conduct electricity and which are insulators by constructing and testing electrical circuits.
In art, the children have been looking at examples of narrative art and how paintings can tell a story with a focus on how social injustice can be be conveyed in images. The children then produced their own drawings related to portraying social injustice. The have also been studying the paintings of Paul Cezanne and his use of colours and tonality and have started experimenting with colour mixing to create different tones.
In history, the children have continued to learn about ancient Egypt. They have been learning about the jobs people did in ancient Egypt , why the pyramids were built and the Valley of the Kings. Next half term ,we will be learn all about Tutankhamun and visiting the British Museum to find out more about ancient Egypt.
I would like to wish you all a nice half term and thank you for all your support.
Miss Weir.
